Loveland is nestled in a lush valley at the entrance to the Big Thompson Canyon and is known as the “gateway to the Rockies.” Loveland is less than one hour from Estes Park, home of Rocky Mountain National Park. Dotted in and around the city and surrounding areas are an abundance of scenic lakes, parks, trails and recreational areas. Loveland’s lakes, rivers and streams offer swimming, water skiing, rafting, boating, fishing and other water sports. Loveland’s mountains provide ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
Loveland’s parks, recreation and trail amenities are diverse and provide comprehensive year-round activities for all ages at a number of facilities. The City has 27 parks, 3 golf courses, 16.25 miles of recreational trail, 28 natural areas, the Hatfield Chilson Recreation Center and Senior Center, Barnes Park Batting Cages, Winona Swimming Pool, Lake Loveland Swim Beach, and a full service Library. The trails wind through the west shore of Boyd Lake State Park, along irrigation canals, through fields, over and under City streets, and along the Big Thompson River through some very beautiful areas. The trails which are partially handicap accessible from several locations are designed to accommodate many types of recreational users.
